Nike Total 90 Laser III SG – Nike PROD CFM Development Sample
An exceptionally rare and unusual Nike Total 90 Laser III, believed to be an internal Nike production-confirmation/development sample from 2011.
Finished in the iconic Metallic Blue Dusk / Volt / Black colourway, this pair differs significantly from the standard retail release and features a remarkable factory-style fold-over Velcro tongue not found on the commercially released Total 90 Laser III.
The internal development label provides some fascinating details:

Perhaps most interestingly, the label references 385423-470 / Total 90 Laser III FG, but the FG designation has been manually crossed through and the finished boot instead features an SG six-stud soleplate.
Product code 385423-470 corresponds with the retail FG version of this colourway, making the combination of the altered specification, SG construction and bespoke tongue particularly significant.
The label also states “SHIP TO BVTN”, consistent with Beaverton, Oregon, home of Nike's World Headquarters, alongside “PROD CFM 20110222”, indicating that this pair was produced as part of Nike's internal development/production-confirmation process.
The date is also notable: the pair was produced in February 2011, several months before the Blue Dusk/Volt colourway reached the retail market later that year.
The oversized fold-over tongue appears to have been incorporated as part of the boot's original development construction rather than being a standard retail feature. Combined with the altered FG/SG specification, this suggests Nike were testing or producing a bespoke performance configuration.
It is possible that the specification was developed in connection with a professional player's individual requirements; however, we currently have no evidence linking this pair to a specific player, so they are not being advertised as player-worn or definitively player-issued.
A fascinating piece of Nike Football development history and potentially a one-off or extremely limited Total 90 Laser III specification.

FG – Firm Ground
Recommended Use: Natural grass (dry to slightly damp)
Firm Ground boots are designed for use on natural grass pitches. While they can be worn on artificial surfaces, the longer studs/blades are not suited for the harder ground, which can reduce traction and increase the risk of injury. For optimal performance and safety, use only on appropriate natural grass fields.
SG – Soft Ground
Recommended Use: Natural grass (wet or muddy)
Soft Ground boots feature longer, often metal-tipped studs designed to penetrate soft, muddy pitches. They provide superior traction in wet conditions but should never be used on artificial turf (3G/4G), as this significantly increases injury risk.
AG – Artificial Ground
Recommended Use: 3G and 4G artificial pitches
Artificial Ground soleplates are built to withstand the harder, synthetic surfaces of modern artificial pitches. The low-profile, conical stud configuration helps reduce pressure on joints and improves traction without the risk of studs getting stuck in the surface. AG soleplates are the safest and most suitable option for artificial grass.
HG – Hard Ground
Recommended Use: Hard or compacted natural surfaces, older and modern artificial turf (3G/4G)
Hard Ground soleplates are mainly found in the Japanese market, where pitches are typically firmer. Designed over 20 years ago, HG plates offer a durable and versatile stud configuration—usually round and shorter than FG studs—making them highly effective on both hard natural grounds and artificial surfaces.
